LASIK is a procedure that uses a laser to correct near-sightedness, long-sightedness, and/or astigmatism. In LASIK, a thin flap in the cornea is created by a computer-controlled laser. The surgeon folds back the flap and the cornea is gently reshaped using our Zeiss MEL90 excimer laser.
LASIK delivers greatly enhanced vision and has been used successfully on millions of eyes. Not only do we trust this technology, so does NASA, which has approved LASIK for its astronauts.

SMILE is a minimally invasive procedure used to correct near-sightedness and mild to moderate astigmatism. In SMILE, a Zeiss femtosecond laser is used to create a 3D lenticule inside the cornea. The surgeon then gently removes the lenticule and leaves the top corneal layer without a flap.

LASIK PLUS or Refractive Lens Exchange

Astigmatism
LASIK is very effective for treating Astigmatism. Uncorrected it causes blurry, distorted vision for Distance and/or Near. This happens when the shape of the front of the eye (cornea) or the lens inside the eye is not a perfectly smooth and even curve.

Typical signs of cataracts are a blurriness of vision, increased sensitivity to light, and increased glare; particularly when driving at night. Cataracts affect the transparency of the lens in either one or both eyes. This means laser vision correction – which reshapes the cornea – will not correct cataracts. A refractive lens exchange procedure will restore sight and clarity. Modern premium implants help regain vision in all Distances – Far and Near.

Corneal Cross-Linking
Keratoconus, which affects just 1 in 2000 people, is a progressive visual disorder where the cornea loses stability and goes out of shape. This causes blurry vision beyond the scope of glasses or contacts and goes hand in hand with a thinning of the cornea. Other symptons include cloudy vision, ghosting, doubling images, glare, and halos. If diagnosed early, further deterioration can be prevented and sight is stabilised via Corneal Cross-Linking (CXL), a procedure that strengthens the cornea.

For patients with thin corneas
Advanced Surface Laser, also known as Photo Refractive Keratectomy (PRK), was the first type of laser eye surgery for vision correction and is the predecessor to the popular LASIK. PRK is a type of refractive surgery to correct myopia (near-sightedness), hyperopia (long-sightedness), and astigmatism.
PRK is best suited for those patients who would normally choose LASIK, but whose corneal measures are deemed too thin for LASIK. PRK gives excellent results though with marginally more discomfort for a few days and a slower recovery timeframe than LASIK.

Patients who have extremely strong scripts or are not eligible for LASIK
An Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) is for patients who want vision correction but fall outside the eligibility for laser vision correction. This could be due to high myopia (short-sightedness) or hyperopia (long-sightedness), thin or irregularly shaped corneas, or very dry eyes.
The lens is permanently implanted in front of the patient’s natural lens and behind the iris, and cannot be seen or felt. It can also be removed or replaced if required. ICLs provide similar, and in some cases even better, results to LASIK. Patients with astigmatism can also be candidates for ICL.
In the initial consultation, at any of our clinics, the optometrist will discuss the patient’s ocular history, general health, age, occupation, and hobbies in order to ascertain suitability for vision correction surgery.
A comprehensive ocular examination with scans and measurements of your eyes will be carried out. In some cases, extra checks may be required. For example, contact lens trials for blended vision in presbyopic patients.
Following the consultation, the patient watches the consent video, which outlines the surgical procedure in detail. When it is agreed that the candidate is suitable for the procedure, a patient consent form is signed. If you live outside the areas of our clinics, a consultation can also be arranged with your local optometrist.
This is the big day when your life will change. Family members are welcomed and encouraged to accompany patients during preoperative and postoperative consultations. After completing administration requirements, the patient will be taken to the preoperative area to be prepared for treatment.
The procedure itself will usually take 15 to 30 minutes, depending on the specific vision correction procedure. You’ll notice an immediate difference, and you’ll be given eye protection to help protect healing overnight. Most LASIK and SMILE patients’ vision will be substantially improved overnight. We will check your eyes the next day, and then provide prescribed check-up procedures.
Throw away your glasses, contact lens kits, and buy normal sunglasses again. Never worry about fogging, breakages, losses, or even finding your reading glasses again.
Postoperative care is imperative to achieve a fast recovery. Our eye specialist will carry out a postoperative check the day following surgery. Additional postoperative visits can be made at our clinic, or at an appointed local optometrist. The cost of postoperative care is included in your surgical fee for up to six months following your treatment date.
In the experienced hands of a qualified surgeon, vision correction is safe and effective. As with any surgery, there are risks, which can be discussed with the ophthalmologist. The maximum limit of correction obtainable varies from one laser to another.
